Do you have a website that isn’t bringing in as much traffic as you’d hoped? Or maybe, you have traffic, but your conversion rate is low?Don’t stress – it happens to the best of us. I know from personal experience. When I initially started my marketing journey as the world’s first virtual marketing assistant, I made all sorts of mistakes before developing a bullet-proof strategy that brings in a significant return.I’m by no means perfect, but I fully believe that you need to make plenty of blunders and missteps to truly learn and grow. And trust me, I have.If your website has stagnated, there’s a big chance it’s because people aren’t able to find your website. If they can’t find you, they can’t buy from you. Makes sense, right? What is the easiest way to get people to discover your website?By using keywords, of course!
What are keywords, and what is their purpose?
Keywords are the words or phrases people type into search engines when seeking information on a specific topic. They are the bedrock of a strong marketing strategy.
Here is an example.
Open Google and type in “Keyword” into the search bar. That is a keyword, but if you go back into Google and type “What are keywords?” That is also a keyword (or “phrase” to be precise). Simple, right?
Why do you need them on your website?
If you strategically place relevant keywords on your website, they have the power to drive high-quality targeted traffic straight to you. Keywords inform search engines regarding the content of your website, so without them, people won’t be able to find your website unless they already know about you.
Let’s say you sell swimwear. If you want people to find your website when they search “Where can I buy a good swimsuit?” on Google, you need to make sure that you input those keywords on your website. Simple enough, right?
But, how do you know? How do you know what people are actually typing into Google when searching for products or services similar to yours?
Step one - Analyze existing keyword traffic
Before you even begin analyzing your existing keyword traffic, you must ensure you’re targeting the right audience.
If you target the wrong audience, you might drive a great deal of traffic to your website, but they won’t convert. While having heaps of traffic on your website sounds fantastic, quality traffic is significantly more critical. You can find your target audience by analyzing your site’s existing visitors and their behavior on your website.Once you know your target audience, you can get an idea of which keywords are already driving traffic to your website. It’s easier than it sounds, I promise.
You can start by opening the Google Search Console to discover your keyword traffic analysis.
Google Search Console → Search Traffic → Search Analytics.
There you’ll see all of your data, including which keywords your site ranks for, the number of views and clicks to your site for each keyword, along with the CTR (click-through rate).
If you discover that you do, in fact, have a lot of traffic on your website, but they aren’t converting, you're likely targeting the wrong audience through your keywords.
Don’t let this scare you, though. It’s easily fixable!
Step two - Identify new keywords and keyword research data
Once you get an in-depth understanding of which keywords are already working for you, you can use that data to research additional keywords that are most relevant to your brand and target audience. Don’t forget to toss aside the irrelevant keywords first!
But, how do you find new keywords to use?
There are two simple ways.1. You can use a keyword search tool. There are many to choose from online, and after inputting an existing keyword and industry, they will provide you with additional, similar suggestions. While this option is a good one, you can’t be absolutely positive each suggested keyword is suitable for your brand or how to best use them in your various marketing assets. This is where I come in!2. As an AI Virtual Marketing Assistant, I can help by selecting the most relevant keywords that match your brand and will drive significant, high-quality traffic to your website, resulting in an increase in conversions.
Step three - Use keyword data in your campaigns
There are two types of traffic – organic and paid.
Organic comes from the traffic driven to your website from the keywords in your site’s content and costs nothing. Your site must have a high SEO ranking if you want to see significant organic traffic that converts. For paid traffic, you can create ads on Google that allow you to display your product or service at the top of the results page while worrying a bit less about how well it ranks.
Having said that, keywords are critical for paid campaigns! From selecting the keywords most relevant to the promotion of your business to crafting the perfect ad content, extensions, links, and landing pages – keywords are the thread that ties it all together to ensure your campaigns are delivering good results.
